JUST IN: NLC President Demands ‘Minimum Wage With Value’

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has demanded for a new National Minimum Wage that has value to ease the pains being suffered by workers in the country.

Ajaero made the call while delivering his opening remarks at Rockview Hotel, Abuja, during the launch of the Investigative Research on Minimum Wage and Pension Payment Compliance in Nigeria.

He underscored the urgent need to move beyond the mere announcement and implementation of minimum wage to ensuring that wages translate into real purchasing power and a decent standard of living for Nigerian workers.

“For the NLC, minimum wage compliance must go hand in hand with timely payment, respect for workers’ rights, and effective enforcement across all tiers of government and the private sector.

“Equally important is the prompt and full payment of pensions to retirees who have served the nation.

“As the cost of living continues to put pressure on workers and pensioners, the call is clear: wages must have value, pensions must be paid, and the law must be obeyed.

“A minimum wage that cannot meet basic needs is not enough. Nigerian workers deserve a living wage with real value, while pensioners deserve dignity, security, and their entitlements without delay,” he said.
