Jigawa to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions, community leaders to enhance trust in security initiatives

Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue collaborating with traditional institutions and community leaders to enhance trust and cooperation in security initiatives.
The Governor disclosed this while declaring open a two-day paper presentation and interactive session for the participants of Senior Course 48 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, Dutse.
Represented by his deputy, Eng. Aminu Usman, he emphasized that through grassroots participation and community policing structures, Jigawa State has achieved relative stability, allowing for progress in education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment.
He highlighted the theme of the study tour, “Promoting Community Engagement for National Security and Prosperity,” stressing the necessity of collaboration between the armed forces, civil authorities, and local communities to address modern security challenges.
“Your chosen theme speaks directly to one of the most critical pillars of sustainable peace and development in our country today. It is not only timely but also highly relevant to the realities of our nation. The involvement of communities as active stakeholders is indispensable. Security challenges in the modern world are increasingly complex and cannot be addressed by military efforts alone. They require strong collaboration between the armed forces, civil authorities, and the communities they serve,” he stated.
The Governor stated that security was a shared responsibility, and effective community engagement is vital for sustainable peace and development.
“We have strengthened our engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders to build trust, enhance intelligence gathering, and promote peaceful coexistence. We also support grassroots participation in security initiatives. Through community policing structures, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and partnerships with local leaders, we have continued to foster trust between citizens and security agencies,” he said.
“Through these efforts, we have recorded relative stability, enabling us to focus on developmental priorities such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment. We understand that security and prosperity are mutually reinforcing—without peace, development cannot thrive, and without development, peace cannot be sustained.”
Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, welcomed the participants and reaffirmed the state’s dedication to improving the welfare of its citizens through strategic investments.
“I wish to state that your presence in our dear state is highly appreciated and deeply valued. The Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji-Nigeria continues to be one of the foremost institutions for training operational and strategic leaders in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
He said that over the years, this prestigious college has produced officers equipped with the intellectual depth, discipline, and professional competence required for modern security and governance challenges.
Ibrahim stated that study tour such as this provide a unique opportunity for the cross-examination of ideas, exchange of knowledge, practical exposure, and a deeper understanding of governance, development administration, security management, and intergovernmental collaboration.
He announced that the Jigawa State Government, under Gov. Umar Namadi, remains committed to policies and programs aimed at improving the welfare of the people through investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic development.
He emphasized that sustainable development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, security, and strong institutional cooperation.
The SSG commended the Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and security, expressing confidence that the knowledge gained during this study tour would prepare participants for future leadership roles.
Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, Team Leader of the Participants, described Jigawa State as peaceful, hospitable, and development-oriented. He stated that the study tour was designed to provide participants with firsthand information on governance, security management, and community engagement initiatives implemented across selected states in Nigeria.
Omopariola disclosed that Jigawa State was chosen for the exercise due to its reputation as one of the most peaceful and stable states in Nigeria.
During the occasion, four papers were presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed; Honourable Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo; Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Isah Yusuf Chamo; and Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Muttaqa Namadi.
