Federal workers to receive wage award arrears in instalment  –  OAGF

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has announced that government will resume the payment of the five months wage award arrears after the payment of the April 2025 salaries.

The Syndicate reports that the resumption of the payment may not be unconnected with the recent protests by federal workers over the government refusal to pay the arrears of the wage award and other welfare issues.

The peaceful demonstration within federal secretariats were held simultaneously nationwide to register the workers disappointment with the government for reneging on agreements reached with labour unions.

A statement in Abuja issued by the OAGF Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, however, said the outstanding money would not be paid at once, but spread over the next five months.

Federal Government had previously paid five months of the N35,000 wage award to each eligible worker.

The statement clarified that the first installment of the outstanding stop-gap cash would be disbursed immediately after the payment of April 2025 salaries.

It explained that while workers would receive their normal salaries for April as scheduled, the separate payment for the wage award arrears would follow immediately.

“The wage award arrears would not be paid with the April 2025 salary; it will come immediately after the salary is paid,” the statement added.
