Nigeria moves to provide total military radar coverage of air space
Nigeria is seeking to deepen strategic partnerships with leading Chinese defence and technology firms as it strives to achieve Military Total Radar Coverage of the country’s airspace and develop a formidable Air Defence System.
To this end, the Nigeria Air Force has despatched a delegation to China, led by Air Vice Marshal Suleiman Kabir Usman, which met with defence companies in Beijing, Hefei, Nanjing, and Xi’an, including China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and China North Industries Corporation.
During the visit from April 20 to April 25, 2025, the delegation received briefings on advance radar systems, air defence capabilities, and command and control technologies.
There were also demonstrations of the Sky Dragon Weapon System and High Energy Laser Counter-UAV systems.
The team leader expressed confidence in the technical expertise of the Chinese companies and noted that further engagements would ensure the successful execution and sustainability of the project.
The delegation also discussed long-term initiatives, such as talent development for NAF cadets and the establishment of a Radar Maintenance and Research Facility in Nigeria.
The visit was part of the NAF’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships and cutting-edge technology to strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities.
