There is a heavy presence of security personnel in Jos and other parts of  Plateau State on Wednesday as local elections hold across the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Already, personnel of the police, civil defence and military have been stationed in strategic locations across the state, including polling units to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The police had announced restrictions on movements on election day to avoid disruption of the exercise.

Alfred Alabo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police had said that adequate personnel were deployed to all the LGAs for the elections.

“We have made adequate arrangements towards ensuring that the election is peaceful.

“We have deployed our officers and men to all the 17 LGAs and some flashpoints within the metropolis.

“So far everywhere is peaceful, and we hope that Plateau residents will cooperate with the security agencies towards a violent-free poll,” Alabo said.
