The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved a contract for the upgrade of the State radio station and the construction of five new Community FM stations across the state at the cost of N1.377 billion.<
The State's Comissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, said this when he briefed newsmen after the state executive council meeting.
“The state executive council has approved N1.377 billion contract for the upgrade of the Jigawa State Broadcasting (popularly known as Radio Jigawa) and the establishment of five new community FM stations," he said.
Ahmed explained that the initiative was aimed at bolstering the state’s broadcasting capacity, improving access to timely and credible information, and enhancing community-based communication throughout the state.
He said the approved contracts include the supply and installation of a 50KW Harris Digital AM transmitter at Jigawa Radio, alongside radio equipment such as 3KW FM transmitters for the five new community stations.He further said the new Community FM stations will be constructed in Gumel, Gwaram, Hadejia, Kazaure, and Ringim Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner stated that the project is expected to expand broadcasting coverage across the state and provide modern broadcasting capabilities, focusing on transmission quality, reliability, coverage, and adherence to digital broadcasting standards
