Jigawa Govt, NIGCOMSAT Empowers 150 Youths On V-SAT Hackatho

Jigawa state government in collaboration with NIGCOMSAT has commenced a five-day training of 150 youths on V-SAT and Hackathon aimed at empowering the youth to be self reliant.n
Speaking while declaring the training open, the Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, represented by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Hadiza Abdulwahab said it was meant to open opportunities for jobs in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
The governor said Jigawa has been in the forefront of ICT development in the country having established the Galaxy Information Technology and Telecommunications and Jigawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency.
On her part, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton Idehen said the theme of the programme, “Building Grassroots Innovation in Satellite Technology” is aimed at empowering the youth on digital innovations to create jobs and boost the economy.
“The Nigcomsat youth empowerment programme is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at equipping young minds with cutting-edge knowledge in satellite technology and digital communication,” she said.
The Managing Director added that the programme was designed to foster innovation, enhance technical skills and create opportunities for youths in the ever-evolving space-tech industry.
According to her, the trainees will be trained in Spacehack 2025 aimed at developing satellite technology to tackle real world challenges in areas like agriculture, disaster management, telecommunications and security issues.
She added that the other part of the training focused on Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology, a satellite communication system that uses small antennas to transmit and receive data, voice, and video signals.
Idehen noted the the programme will be run across the country. “We are in Dutse, Jigawa state which is the second representing northwest. We will be at Adamawa state in the northeast, Ondo in Southwest and Owerri in the South south zones.
“By the time we are done, we are expecting to train thousands of youth.”
In his remarks, the Director General of Jigawa State Economic Empowerment and Youth Employment Agency, Dr Habib Muhammad Ubale, urged the participants to concentrate, acquire the skills and step it down to others.
