Jigawa Govt, UNICEF Sign 3 Year Workplan On Child Protection, Social Policy

The Jigawa State Government has signed a multi-year work plan of three years with United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) on health, education, child protection, and social policy.
Speaking during the signing of the multi-year work plan at Government House Dutse, Governor Umar Namadi said the 2025 – 2027 work plan is a testimony of the strong partnership between UNICEF and government of Jigawa state.
Namadi noted that the partnership has been productive and inclusively beneficial to the people of the state, particularly the survival and development of children and women.
“UNICEF is the only development partner that has continuously, consistently support Jigawa state since it’s creation for over three decades.
“All these years, UNICEF is using its budgetary resources to support our development efforts, as well as mobilise resources from other development partners to contribute to the development of the state”.
In his remarks, the Chief of UNICEF Field Office Kano Mr. Rahama Mohammed Farah also described the event as a significant milestone.
“This plan is a demonstration of UNICEF’s continuing collaboration and the strong partnership with Jigawa state government,” Farah said, adding that the partnership holds immense promise for the children and families of Jigawa state.
“This commitment is evidenced by the allocation of resources to programmes that impact the lives of children and women, especially in the sectors of health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene.

“The signing of this work plan, therefore, formalises yet again our partnership that holds immense promise for the children and families of Jigawa state.”
He explained that the plan is a comprehensive framework that will guide efforts in the critical areas of health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, education, child protection, and social policy.
“This Workplan is not just a document; it is a testament to our shared vision for a brighter future for every child in the state.
“It also envisions very ambitious targets and outcomes for which resources need to be mobilized and the Jigawa state government is expected to contribute its share as counterpart funding to achieve and sustain the planned results,” the UNICEF chief said.
Farah said in spite of the progress made over the years, they must acknowledge the current realities of dwindling global donor funding and hence the significance of more government contribution.
“In this context, I would like to respectfully call on the Jigawa State Government to consider increasing the allocation of domestic resources to the critical sectors of health, nutrition, education, WASH, child protection, and social protection,” Farah said.
