Jigawa Assembly Reinstates 4 Suspended LG Chairmen

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has reinstated four local government chairmen suspended from office on March 6, 2024 for misconduct, negligence and injudicious use of public funds.
The lawmakers lifted the suspension barely five days to the end of the tenure of the local council chairmen.
The House directed the chairmen to resume work with immediate effect, but warned them against any act of misconduct again.
The affected local councils bosses are Bappa Shinge, Auyo; Bala Usman-Chamo, Dutse; Ahmed Rufa’i, Gumel, and Shehu Sule-Udi, Ringim.
The Syndicate recalls that the Assembly suspended the four chairmen after its Committee on Local Government investigated and found them culpable in allegations of misconduct, negligence and injudicious use of public funds.
Before resolving to recall the chairmen, the House had reviewed the report of its ad hoc committee set up to investigate the suspended council chairmen.
Mr Aminu Zakari, the Ag. Chairman of the committee, while presenting the report, listed 11 findings and observations based on the documents submitted to it by the suspended council chairmen.
The committee recommended among others, that stern warning be issued to the affected chairmen to desist from any act unbecoming of their status, and for the suspension to be lifted.
The committee’s recommendations were subsequently voted upon by the members and approval given to recall the chairmen.
The sitting was presided by the Speaker, Mr Haruna Aliyu.
One of the LG chairmen, Usman-Chamo of Dutse LGA, commended the lawmakers for the gesture, and thanked their supporters and well wishers for their solidarity.
Usman-Chamo, who was the state ALGON chairman, assured that all the 27 LGA chairmen in the state will do their best in serving the people.
He reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Umar Namadi and the All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as to work for the party to be more stronger, united and victorious at all time.
