Midnight Gas Explosion Incinerate Shops, Vehicles In Niger
Several shops and vehicles were completely burnt on Saturday night following a fire outbreak at a gas station in Sabon Wuse in Niger State.
The fire was said to have started at about 11pm and burnt till about 3am when fire fighters were able to bring it under control.
Sabon Wuse is 16 kilometres away from Diko Junction where over 100 people were incinerated and 43 injured when a 60,000 litre petrol tanker went up in flames on January 18.
However in the Sabon Wuse incident no life was lost, and no one was injured.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident occurred while a tanker was offloading gas at a filling station.
A resident, Abdul Sabon-Wusa, said people ran out of their homes for safety, and watched from afar while warehouses containing foodstuff, and packed vehicles went up in flames.
“We thank Allah that no life was lost and no one sustain injury, but had this happened in the day time when people were outside pursuing their businesses, it would have been another sad story in Niger State.
“The height of the fire could be seen all around Sabon Wuse which showed how serious it was”, he said.
