The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has sought for increased funding to deliver affordable housing to Nigerians.

A statement issued by Salisu Badamasi Haiba, Director Press and Public Relations of the ministry said that the minister made the appeal while defending the ministry’s 2025 budget before the joint sitting of the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, and the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat.

Dangiwa, who alongside the Minister of State, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata led the management staff of the Ministry to the budget defence, also presented the 2023/2024 budget performance of the ministry.

He said that the priority for 2025 is to complete ongoing housing projects, slum upgrade, and urban renewal programmes nationwide.

Dangiwa also listed the focus areas of his ministry in the 2025 budget to include; construction of 20,000 housing units under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, and completion of National Housing projects in over 20 states and the FCT.

Accordingly, the Minister urged the committee to increase budget allocations in seven key areas which he said were critical to the transformative policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu to put the economy on the path of recovery and growth.

The seven key areas includes raising more funds for the completion of ongoing housing projects, enhancing allocation for slum upgrade and urban renewal programmes, and putting additional resources into the National Housing projects.

Others are improving funding for the affordable housing initiative, enhancing allocation for housing infrastructure, support for research and development, and getting more funds to drive the national housing policy and regulations.

Members of the committees expressed their support for the vision and commitment of the ministry to turn around the housing sector and pledged their support and collaboration to succeed.

The Senate Committee is chaired by Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, while  the House of Representatives Committee is headed by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin.
