Mrs Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who was delivered of quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano on Wednesday, has died.
Malam Salisu Nafiu, her husband, stated this when he spoke with newsmen on Thursday in Kano, saying that the woman died at the hospital around 1:00 a.m.
Nafiu said, however, that the quintuplets —three boys and two girls—were alive under medical care at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Nafiu failed to provide further details on the death of the woman.
Hafsat was delivered of the quintuplets via Caesarean section at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the hospital.
Her husband, a tricycle rider, had expressed joy at the successful delivery, saying that it was his wife’s 10th childbirth.
Nafiu also said lauded medical personnel at the hospital for giving the newborns special attention to ensure their wellbeing.
The Kano State Government had on Wednesday announced that it would take full responsibility for the healthcare of the quintuplets.
The state Ministry of Health said the intervention was part of efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare and reduce maternal and infant mortality.
