The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Oyo State Chapter, has congratulated its Founder and Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, on the conferment of the prestigious Award of Special Recognition by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, General Secretary, MURIC, Oyo State Chapter.

“The award was presented to Professor Akintola on Monday, November 2, 2026, during the 13th Usman Dan Fodio Week and the 20th Coronation Anniversary of the Sultan, held at the International Conference Centre, Kasarawa, Sokoto State.

“The grand finale attracted an array of distinguished personalities, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, government officials, Islamic scholars, academics and other eminent Nigerians from within and outside the country.

“MURIC Oyo State Chapter describes the recognition as a well-deserved honour and a testament to Professor Akintola’s decades of unwavering commitment to the protection of religious rights, promotion of justice, defence of the oppressed and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

“As the Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Akintola has remained a consistent voice in the advocacy for religious freedom, particularly the rights of Nigerian Muslims to practise their faith without discrimination, intimidation or persecution,” he said.

Agunbiade said that MURIC was moved by Akintola’s decision to dedicate the award to all Muslims facing religious persecution in Nigeria.

“The chapter is particularly moved by Professor Akintola’s decision to dedicate the award to all Muslims facing religious persecution in Nigeria. This noble gesture further demonstrates his selfless commitment to the collective interests of the Muslim Ummah and his determination to ensure that the challenges confronting persecuted Muslims are not forgotten.

“We consider this recognition not merely a personal achievement but an honour to MURIC, the Nigerian Muslim community and all those who believe in justice, equity and religious freedom.

“We pray that Almighty Allah continues to grant Professor Ishaq Akintola sound health, wisdom, strength and steadfastness in his service to Islam, humanity and the Muslim Ummah. May this recognition inspire greater commitment to the struggle for justice and the protection of fundamental human rights in Nigeria.

“Congratulations, Professor. Barakallahu fikum,” he said.
