Officials of North East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP) have visited Yusufari Emirate in Yobe State to seek more support for its deforestation, and climate change response strategies.

The advocacy visit also took the officials led by the Programme Manager, Dr. Mulima Idi Mato to Yusufari Local Government Secretariat, where they highlighted the dangers of deforestation and the attendant negative impact on the environment, and canvassed the support of the people to drive NEAZDP’s response strategies to tackle problems.

The Programme Manager emphasised the need for the people to embark on massive planting of trees and adopt the use of efficient and clean energy cooking techniques to reduce excess carbon emissions, combat desertification, land degradation and prevent drought.

The NEAZDP team also visited the central nursery for raising seedlings established by National Agency for Great Green Wall, where they discussed areas of collaboration and mass production of seedlings for plantation other agro-forestry activities, as well as 3livelihoods support programmes.

At the Emirs Palace in Yusufari, the Emir, Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Zakariya commended NEAZDP for its invaluable interventions to rural development and people’s livelihoods for more than three decades.

On his part, the Local Council Secretary, Alhaji Malam Baba eulogized NEAZDP for its developmental and people-oriented projects executed over the years, citing the examples of its sand dune fixation, oasis development, and shelterbelt erection.

He urged government to support NEAZDP to continue with such important programmes and projects that have direct impact on the environment and the people.
