NUJ disburses N2m to veterans, families of deceased journalists in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), has disbursed about N2 million to veterans and families of deceased journalists in the state as Sallah assistance.
Disbursing the money at a special occasion held at the Press Centre, Dutse, the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ismail Ibrahin Dutse said the union recogonised the immense contributions rendered by the reciepiants to make it what it is today.
He said the money distributed was a request made by the union to the state government and approved by Gov. Umar Namadi.
“The state government deserved to be comnended for honouring the financial request to assisst our veterans who made sacrifices to promote and save the prestige of Journaiism profession,” the Chairman added.
In his message, the state’s Commissiober for Information, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, assured the NUJ, of the continued support and cooperation of the state government, saying the tremendous achievements of the present NUJ leadership within the short period of its inception.
The Commissioner, represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim, stated that the cordial relationship between the governnment and the press would continue to wax stronger.
The Commissioner said that Jigawa state was blessed with professional journalists the Government was proud to work with.
Ahmed said in recoginition of reliable and accurate dissimination of information by journalists in the state, the government set up a Media CampaignTeam comprising of Veteran Jounalists which would be inaugurated soon.
Responding on behalf of the receipiants, a Veteran Salmanu Adamu Rishi, thanked the NUJ Leadership for honoring and remembering the sacrifices rendered by the veterans to keep the flag flying in the profession.
