Police enforce compliance with vehicle registration laws in Jigawa

The police command in Jigawa State, has intensified the enforcement of traffic and vehicle registration regulations across the state as part of its commitment to enhancing public safety, strengthening security, and ensuring strict compliance with extant laws governing the use of motor vehicles on the roads.
SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated this in a statement on Monday in Dutse.
“The enforcement exercise specifically targeted motorists operating vehicles with unauthorized coverings on registration number plates, defaced or obscured number plates, vehicles without registration numbers, and vehicles displaying manufacturers’ logos or decorative emblems in place of approved registration plates, as well as vehicles fitted with unauthorized tinted glass.
“The Command wishes to remind members of the public that such violations impede effective policing, frustrate crime detection and investigation, and are capable of aiding criminal elements in evading identification and prosecution. Motorists are therefore advised to comply fully with all legal requirements relating to vehicle registration and identification,” Adam said
He added that 24 vehicles had been impounded after they were found to be in contravention of the relevant traffic and vehicle registration.
“During the operation, a total of twenty-four (24) vehicles found to be in contravention of the relevant traffic and vehicle registration regulations were impounded. Following due process, all the offenders were arraigned before a competent court for prosecution in accordance with the law.
“The Jigawa State Police Command reiterates that the enforcement exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to promote public safety, enhance security, and ensure that all road users comply with established laws. The Command therefore urges vehicle owners and motorists to regularize their vehicle documentation, remove all unauthorized coverings from their number plates, replace defaced registration plates, desist from displaying manufacturers’ logos in place of approved number plates, and ensure compliance with regulations governing the use of tinted glass.
“The Command warns that the enforcement exercise will continue across the state, and anyone found violating these regulations will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“The Jigawa State Police Command appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the good people of the state and solicits their continued support in promoting a safe and secure environment for all,” he said.
