Police arrest 5 for kidnapping, 5 for armed robbery in Kano 

The Police Command in Kano State has announced the arrest of five people for alleged involvement in kidnapping a 21-year-old man in Zakirai, Gabasawa LGA on March 8.

The suspects had demanded for N15 million ransom to release their victim, a statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said on Friday.

“On receipt of the report, a team from the Anti-kidnapping Squad led by CSP Bala Shuaibu was detailed to rescue the victim and arrest the culprit(s).”

He said that the five suspects were subsequently arrested through a technical-based operation and intelligence-driven investigation between 11/03/2025 to 18/03/2025.

The suspects are Tukur Lawal A.K.A Maikudi, Ado Usman Alias Ruwa, Sunusi Surajo, Ummulkhairi Ibrahim, and Habiba Shuaibu.

“A Dane Gun used in the operation, and a sum of four million eight hundred and fifty thousand naira were recovered from the suspects.”

Meanwhile, five suspected armed robbers were also apprehended in three separate operations on March 18, and Marvh 19, in the state.

The spokesman said Awwal Hassan Ibrahim and Suleiman Umar both from Jos Plateau State were arrested for involvement in a robbery incident at Badawa Layout, and a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition was recovered from them.

“Similarly, on 18th March 2025, at about 11 am, the Command received credible information that some suspected criminals were sighted driving a motor vehicle in possession of a rifle.

“On receipt of the report, a team of detectives was dispatched, and arrested one Shuaibu Yakubu, ‘m’, 25 years old, alias Dan Bula Bula, of Kadawa Mil-Tara Quarters, Kano.

“Upon search conducted, an AK-47 rifle loaded with twelve rounds of live ammunition and a motor vehicle Pontiac Vibe, red in color were recovered. The suspect confessed to have involved in series of armed robbery incidents in Kano and Abuja.

“In a related development, on 19/03/2025 at about 01:15 pm, the Command’s Rapid Response Team, while on an intelligence-led operation, arrested one Friday Bitrus, ‘m’, 38 years old, and Daniel Samuel, ‘m’, 25 years old, both of Zango Quarters, Kano.

“A locally made pistol with two live cartridges and a sharp Axe were recovered from them.”

Kiyawa said all the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has commended the gallant officers involved in the operations and assured the public that the Command will spare no effort in ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
