Police arrest suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, other criminals in Jigawa

The Jigawa police command in Jigawa has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained campaign against crime and criminality across the state with the arrest of several suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, vandalism, theft, attempted kidnapping for ransom, armed robbery, and criminal intimidation, and the recovery of stolen property.
SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated this in a statement on Saturday in Dutse.
“In one of the operations, on 19th June, 2026, at about 0001hrs, police operatives attached to Malam Madori Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Usman Muhammad ‘m’ age 25yrs of Unguwar Ganye, M/Madori LGA, who was caught vandalising an extension coiled electrical cable at Gari Uku, Malam Madori. The exhibit was recovered. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the offence in collaboration with four accomplices currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

“Similarly, on 19th June, 2026, at about 1500hrs, a complaint was received at Kiyawa Divisional Police Headquarters that one Abubakar Mohammed ‘m’ age 25yrs of Zawaya Village, Kiyawa LGA, and Sulaiman Idris (alias Hardo) ‘m’ age 27yrs of Manuna Village, Itas-Gadau LGA, Bauchi State, criminally conspired, intimidated, and attempted to kidnap one individual. The suspects allegedly threatened a victim through anonymous telephone calls, demanding four (₦4) million naira after falsely claiming they had been paid two (₦2) million naira to kidnap or kill him. The suspects were successfully tracked and arrested, while the investigation continues. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

“On 21st June, 2026, at about 0530hrs, police operatives attached to Taura Division swiftly responded to a distress call reporting an armed robbery at Chuwasu Village, Taura Local Government Area. The robbers attacked the victim with sticks and cutlasses before carting away his black boxer motorcycle. On sighting the responding patrol team, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene. The robbed motorcycle was successfully recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“In another operation, on the same date, detectives from Taura, Malam Madori, and Birniwa Divisions recovered four (4) suspected stolen cows. During the separate operations, Musa Shehu ‘m’ age 40yrs, and Adamu Shehu ‘m’ age 30yrs both of the Boguwa settlement camp, were arrested. The recovered cows have since been handed over to the rightful owner on bond. The case was charged to court,” he said.
Adam added:”On 22nd June, 2026, at about 1200hrs, detectives from Takur Site Division arrested Mustapha Umar ‘m’ age 19yrs of Azare LGA, Bauchi State, in connection with the theft of a Samsung A14 mobile phone belonging to one Mercy Onoja. The suspect confessed to conspiring with three accomplices from Kaduna and Bauchi states, respectively, who are currently at large. When a search was conducted at their hotel accommodation, the following exhibits were recovered, including a knife, master keys, screwdrivers, wristwatches, scissors, a mobile phone, a horn, perfume, and other suspected burglary tools. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

“In another major breakthrough, on 23rd June, 2026, at about 2000hrs, detectives attached to Kazaure Division dismantled a notorious motorcycle theft syndicate during an intelligence-led operation along Dandi-Kazaure Road. Four (4) suspects were arrested while attempting to dispose of a suspected stolen motorcycle. The gang leader’s identity was identified as Aminu Adamu ‘m’ age 48yrs of Galadanchi Quarters via Kazaure town. Investigation uncovered the activities of the syndicate in stealing and trafficking motorcycles across the area. Four (4) stolen motorcycles were eventually recovered. Following the conclusion of investigation, four suspects were found culpable, while one principal suspect and another accomplice remain at large. The case has since been charged before a competent court for prosecution.

“The Acting Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, commended the officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, vigilance, and prompt response to intelligence, which culminated in the successful operations. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and warned criminal elements that Jigawa State will remain a hostile environment for all forms of criminality.

“The Acting Commissioner of Police further appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by providing timely, credible, and actionable information capable of preventing crime and facilitating the arrest of offenders.”
