‘Promote unity, moral integrity in your preaching’, Shari’ah Council tasks scholars
The President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Sheikh Abdulrasheed Hadiyyatullah, has urged Muslim leaders and scholars to promote unity, moral integrity, and peaceful solutions to societal concerns.
He said that as leaders, they must encourage their followers to prioritise harmonious coexistence in the society at all times.
The SCSN President made the call at the Annual Pre-Ramadan meeting held on Tuesday in Kaduna.
Hadiyyatullah emphasised that the scholars should in their preaching during the Ramadan emphasise compassion, justice, unity, and tolerance, in addition to encouraging sincere repentance, unwavering devotion, and renewal of faith.
“Islamic scholars must work together to provide moral and spiritual guidance,” he added, explaining that this would enhance unity among Muslims, regardless of ethnic and geographical differences.
The Sharia’h council president also urged the Ulamas to preach to those in government to show empathy and address the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
“Religious leaders must work to restore moral integrity by reinforcing ethical teachings.
“The council cautions against violence and encourages open dialogue and constructive engagement with the government,” he added.
Also speaking, the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, urged Nigerians to always pray for leaders and the country.
“The prayers should be for peace and prosperity. They are the best to offer such prayers,” he said.
On the security situation in the country, the Minister said while government was doing its best to make the country safer for all, the collective prayers of Nigerians will also facilitate more successes.
“Well, you have seen that the security is improving, and it’s only Allah that can give assurance, but I will tell you, we will do our best to make sure people are secured,” Badaru said.
