Report of bandits’ attack on Niger Gov’s convoy false  –  Official

Niger State Government has dismissed as baseless, false and unfounded, social media reports of bandits’ attack on the convoy of the state Governor, Umar Bago.

Reports on social media platforms have claimed that the bandits attacked the governor’s  convoy in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.

However, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bologi Ibrahim, said in a statement that “the convoy of the governor has been having a smooth tour of ongoing projects across Niger North Senatorial District since last week.

“The Farmer Governor’s tour has been peaceful with no incident of any attack or threat to his safety or that of his team.”

According to the statement, the governor has enjoyed warm reception in all the communities visited since the start of the tour.

“Security personnel, with the cooperation of local law enforcement personnel, have also been resolute in ensuring the safety and security of all participants in the tour,” it added.

The government berated media  practitioners who unethically disseminate false and misleading information to the public for their selfish interest, and urged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to take appropriate action to rid the profession of quacks.
