World Cancer Day: Foundation restates commitment to raising awareness, supporting patients
The Kaduna-based Hassy’s Haven Foundation, has expressed commitment to raising awareness on cancer, and supporting victims of the disease.
In a statement to mark the World Cancer Day, the founder, Hussaina Mohammed Yakubu said their focus has been on raising awareness for early cancer detection and prevention, and treatment options available.
She said that the foundation will also “continue to advocate for policy change and the imperative for government agencies and stakeholders to strengthen cancer care services and provide affordable treatment for all”.
“As the world marks World Cancer Day on February 4, 2025, Hassy’s Haven Foundation reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for better policies to improve the lives of indigent female cancer patients in Nigeria.”
It noted that this year’s theme “United by Unique” emphasises placing individuals at the center of cancer care, highlighting that behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story.
“It underscores the importance of a people-centered approach, integrating each person’s distinct needs with compassion and empathy to achieve the best health outcomes.
“The “United by Unique” campaign encourages the global community to recognise and honour the personal experiences of those affected by cancer.
“By focusing on individual stories, the campaign aims to foster a deeper connection between healthcare providers, patients, and communities, advocating for health systems that prioritize people which aligns with our mission in supporting cancer patients particularly for underprivileged women battling the disease.
“Cancer remains a major public health challenge, and many women face financial, emotional, and psychological barriers that hinder access to early detection, treatment, and post-recovery support.”
The foundation, therefore, said it would educate women to go for early detection, take preventive measures, and for those with the disease, the treatment options available.
The Syndicate reports that Hassy’s Haven Foundation was established in memory of Hassana Yakubu, a dedicated journalist who bravely battled cancer for eight years.
Her resilience has continued to inspire many in championing the rights of women affected by cancer.
