3.5m voters, 5 political parties set for LG election in Katsina State  

No fewer than 3,516,719 registered voters are expected to participate in Saturday’s local government election in Katsina State.

The voters are expected to elect 34 Local government chairmen and 361 councillors during the polls holding in over 6000 polling units in the state.

The five political parties participating in the local council election include Accord party, Africa Development Congress (ADC), Boot party, Action Democratic Party (ADP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Lawal Alhassan told newsmen in Katsina that the commission was ready to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

“The commission has distributed non-sensitive election materials to all the 34 local government areas after recruiting and training over 20,000 ad-hoc staff who will conduct the election on Saturday 15th February 2025, while sensitive election materials will be distributed on the eve of the election,” he said.

On security, Faskari said there was no cause for alarm as security agencies remain commited to ensuring the successful conduct of the election.

“We have discussed with all security agencies and they have guaranteed the conduct of hitch-free elections in the 34 local government area of Katsina state.

“All security arrangements have been put in place even in local government areas that previously had security challenges.”
