The Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) plans to inaugurate its online media chapel on Tuesday, June 30, the Acting Secretary, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo has said.
Shuwajo said this in a statement tagged “Invitation letter for the formal inauguration of Jigawa online media chapel” on Thursday in Dutse.
He said that the planned inauguration followed the approval of the National Secretariat of the NUJ.
“Sequel to the approval of the National Secretariat, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council cordially invites you to the formal inauguration of the newly established JIGAWA ONLINE MEDIA CHAPEL, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the NUJ Press Centre, by 2:00 p.m,” Shuwajo said.
He said that the inauguration would make a significant milestone in an effort to enhance the practice of digital journalism in the state.
“This inauguration marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance the practice of digital journalism in Jigawa State. The establishment of online media chapels is authorized under the amended provisions of Article 5 of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Constitution.
“This inclusion was officially ratified during a Special Delegates Conference held in Kano in 2022, where the constitution was amended to recognize and integrate online/digital journalism practice into the union. This constitutional update empowers qualified digital journalists to form independent chapels across various state councils.
“Your presence would be an honor as we celebrate this important development in the media sector,” he said.
