BUK promotes 23 academic staff to professors By Ali Baba-Inuwa The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has approved the promotion of 23 academic staff to Professors,following successful external assessments.
The approval was given at the Council’s 8th Meeting held on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, with the appointments taking effect from 1 October 2025.
The council also approved the promotion of 31 other staff to Associate Professors.
The newly promoted professors included Prof. Haruna Salisu Gombe — Department of Crop Protection, Prof. Aminu Alhasan Fagge — Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA),Prof. Jamilu Abubakar Bala — Medical Laboratory Sciences and Prof. Muhammad Awwal Ladan — Nursing Sciences.
Others were Prof. Abdullahi Asuku Yusuf — Anatomy, Prof. Kabiru Abdulsalam — Chemical Pathology, Prof. Muzzamil Abdullahi — Surgery, Prof. Murtala Umar — Civil Engineering, Prof. Hassan Abdullahi Bashir — Electrical Engineering and Prof. Bala Boyi Bukata — Electrical Engineering.
The also ncluded Prof. Bawa Abdullahi Chafe — Estate Management, Prof. Dahiru Inuwa Madoji — Education, Prof. Abubakar Wambai Aminu — Economics, Prof. Muhammad Nuruddeen — Public Law, Prof. Auwal Musa — Physics and Prof. Aliyu Ibrahim Kiri — Mathematical Sciences.
The restrest included Prof. Nu’uman Muhammad Habib — Sociology, Prof. Bala Saleh Dawakin Tofa — Sociology, Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas — Community Medicine, Prof. Muttaka Na’iya Ibrahim — Civil Engineering, Prof. Ikusika Francis Olowafeyisawo — Restorative Dentistry, Prof. Sani Sa’idu Bello — Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Prof. Rabi’u Yahaya Hassan — Islamic Studies and Shari’ah.
While the newly promoted Associate Professors were Dr. Mohammed Abba — Medical Radiography, Dr. Musa Yusuf Dambele — Medical Radiography, Dr. Abdulmaleek Musa Aliyu — Nursing Science, Dr. Naziru Bashir Mukhtar — Physiotherapy and Dr. Rabiu Inuwa Fagge — Anatomy.
They also included Dr. Shehu Auwal Muhammad — Biochemistry, Dr. Zainab Uba Ibrahim — Chemical Pathology, Dr. Hadiza Musa Abdullahi — Community Medicine, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Ahmad — Pathology and Dr. Shamsuddeen Muhammad — Surgery.
Others were Dr. Bashir Kado — Civil Engineering, Dr. Sani Halliru Lawan — Electrical Engineering, Dr. Nasiru Saad — Education,Dr. Bello Shehu — Education, Dr. Shehu Sa’ad Janguza — Education, Dr. Aisha Basiru Muhammad — Special Education, Dr. Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi — Economics and Dr. Usman Muhammad Ibrahim — Physics.
They also included Dr. Idris Ahmad — Physics, Dr. Jamilu Hashim Hassan — Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Mansur Zubairu — Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Hassan Muhammad — Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi Huguma — Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Basirka — Sociology, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Aliyu — Arts & Humanities (SCE) and Dr. Jamila Mashi Ahmed — Biochemistry
The rest were Dr. Bashir Yunusa — Surgery, Dr. Sule Abdullahi Gaya — Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Maryam Abdulkadir Dangambo — Biochemistry, Dr. Usman Muhammad Bello — Surgery and Dr. Safiya Ahmad Nuhu — International Law & Jurisprudence.
Six women among the newly promoted Associate Professors: Zainab Uba Ibrahim, Hadiza Musa Abdullahi, Aisha Basiru Muhammad, Jamila Mashi Ahmed, Maryam Abdulkadir Dangambo, and Safiya Ahmad Nuhu.
